Remedial Massage

What is Remedial Massage?

Remedial massage is one of the most effective and readily available ways to ease day-to-day stresses. It can also prevent and treat muscular tension, injuries, pain and soreness, all while promoting relaxation.

It helps to increase delivery of blood and oxygen to the treated areas. Remedial Massage can also be used in support of other therapies to help with muscular injuries.

Remedial massage is concentrated on specific areas of the body, or problem areas.  Importantly, no massage tools are used, just the therapists touch and techniques.

You could have remedial massage as a way to simply relax and unwind, alternatively you may use regular massage to treat a specific physical injury or mental and emotional problems. Mental Health and emotional issues can also have an impact on our muscles. Muscles not only move our joints, they stabilise them and provide amour for our internal organs.

There is also a growing body of evidence to suggest that massage can be effective in helping to treat certain chronic conditions, including fibromyalgia and low back pain.

What to expect from your Remedial Massage?

First, your therapist will provide a full consultation asking you general questions about your health and lifestyle. As a result of this consultation they will ensure the treatment is right for you.

Treatments usually take place on a massage table or couch.  It is also possible however, they will need you to sit in a chair or lay down on a futon-type mat. Most table massage treatments take approximately an hour.  As an example, if you have a ‘back, neck and shoulder’ massage, this may only take between 30 to 40 minutes.

The therapist treating you will then proceed to massage the areas discussed. They will use an oil or cream-based product to provide a free-flowing massage. Towels will also be carefully place to ensure you are covered. This will also keep you warm and comfortable throughout the treatment.
