Smile; you have private dental insurance

One of the most overlooked company health insurance policies may actually be stand-alone dental cover. It really used to be a popular choice, especially in London.  More people are having to use private dental surgeries.  Is it time that we started to look at private dental insurance again?

How much does company dental insurance cost?

There are a number of dental insurance providers in the UK and they all offer businesses different cover levels. The premiums are far less than private medical insurance and the application forms are really simple.

The cost of company dental insurance will depend on the level of cover you choose.

Who is eligible for cover on a company dental insurance scheme?

Employees of your business are eligible to be a main member of your scheme. Providing they are a UK resident and over the age of 18, there should be no issue at all.

If you want to allow your staff to add family members, their spouse/ partner can be added. Child dependants can be added to the cover.  There may be a maximum age such as 21 or 24, they must not be married and must also be a UK resident.

What sort of treatments would be covered on a dental insurance policy?

When you buy a private dental insurance policy you can expect to receive cover for:

  • Routine examinations
  • X-rays
  • Dental Accident
  • Scale and Polish
  • Oral cancer
  • Fillings
  • Extractions
  • Restorative Dental treatment

The benefit limit you opt for will make a difference to the maximum benefit you can claim.

As an example with Bupa dental cover. If you opted for their Level 1 company dental insurance policy the benefit for fillings & root canal would be £150 per person, if you opt for level 4, this would increase to £350 per person per policy year.

The cover available on a stand-alone dental insurance policy is far more comprehensive than the cover you may have access to as a private medical insurance policy add-on. Aviva currently offer a Dental and Optical benefit add-on to their Solutions policy with a maximum routine dental benefit value of £500 and £600 for Dental Accident.

The total benefit value even on the lowest level from a stand-alone provider such as Bupa, Cigna or Simplyhealth would far exceed this limit.

Vitality Health do offer a routine or routine and major dental cover add-on for their private medical insurance however, it really is a good idea to research what is available.
