Breakfast, a term introduced in the 15th century apparently. Literally meaning “breaking the fast” of the night before.

Globally there are massive differences in what a breakfast meal consists of.

Cereals, flat breads, cakes, curries, noodles, cold meats, soup, toast….. there are too many options to even think about. Cold breakfasts, Hot breakfasts or even 3 course breakfasts. Where does it stop?

Here in the UK there are a number of healthy breakfast options to choose from and these include:

  • Porridge
  • Wholegrain cereal
  • Muesli
  • Scrambled eggs
  • Fruit, Nuts and Seeds
  • Smoothies
  • Greek yogurt and honey
  • Avocado on whole grain toast

Unfortunately you can see that the good old English Fry-Up is definitely missing from this list. Gone are the bacon and eggs, no sign of the sausage sarnie either. As for fried bread – that would definitely not make the healthy options list in any part of the world.

There are definitely two camps when it comes to the first meal of the day. I know many people who could not face eating first thing in the morning. Other people could literally eat as soon as they get out of bed.

I cannot help but wonder how we can be so different.
