There are many different types of cancer and therefore many different types of cancer treatment available. Early detection can make a huge difference in the outcome. If you experience any symptoms of cancer, it is essential you seek professional medical advice as soon as you can.

Depending on the severity of your condition, you may be required to have surgery. Sometimes however, your cancer treatment will not be invasive.

When it comes to private medical insurance, what would you expect to be covered for?

Cover is usually available for some or all of the following:

  • In-patient and day-patient cover
  • Post surgery care
  • Diagnostic testing
  • Specialist consultations
  • Chemotherapy
  • Radiotherapy
  • Treatment for the side effects of chemotherapy and Radiotherapy
  • Bone strengthening drugs
  • Stem cell and bone marrow transplants

The above list  of cancer treatment options is not exhaustive. Please check the terms and conditions of your policy for clarification of the benefits you have access to.

You do not have to use private health insurance instead of the NHS. You can opt to continue your treatment via the NHS if you are happy to do so. Most insurers will offer you an NHS cash back option if you go this route.

If you have a reduced out-patient option on your health insurance policy, the monetary limit will not apply to your treatment for cancer.

Cancer treatment can be very expensive especially with the modernisation of technology and treatment.
