When you have been diagnosed with a terminal or life limiting illness you will be told what options you have regarding End of Life or palliative care.

This could involve any one of the following:

  • Care in your own home
  • Hospice care
  • Being looked after in hospital
  • Moving to a care home for specialist care

Your options for end of life care will depend on the level of care that you need.

If you have a health insurance policy in place, this may cover you for End of Life care in your own home or may allow for a hospice donation.

It is important that you check what cover is available on your policy.

By planning this all in advance, you will be sure that your family, friends and carers will all know your wishes.

Your local hospice may offer open days for the community.

It is worth visiting a hospice before you need to so that you are comfortable with the surroundings. Importantly you can then see for yourself the high level of care that is provided.
