The healing powers of hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy can be use in the treatment of many conditions. If you are fortunate enough to be covered on a health cash plan, you may have access to this type of benefit.

Unfortunately it is not usually covered on private medical insurance in the UK.

You could opt to self-fund your hypnotherapy treatments and the cost will depend on your therapist.

The professional standards authority provides an easy to use practitioner database of therapists:

https://www.professionalstandards.org.uk/check-practitioners/practitioner/hypnotherapist

I have checked under Chelmsford as an area with a 10 mile radius search and this has produced 11 qualified hypnotherapists.

If I widen that search area to capture a 10 mile radius of London, there are 414 options. There are many qualified and accredited hypnotherapy practitioners in the UK.

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy that is used to treat conditions or to help people change habits. Hypnotherapy is more than just hypnosis. Hypnosis helps you to feel relaxed but will only work on people who are open to and want to be hypnotised.

Hypnotherapy comes in two forms and the most common one is referred to as suggestion therapy.

What conditions can be treated with hypnotherapy?

The list of medical conditions that hypnotherapy is thought to be able to help to treat is vast.  Below is a list of just a few of them:

  • Fears and Phobias
  • Weight loss
  • Anxiety
  • Quitting Smoking
  • Gambling addiction
  • Drinking issues
  • Stress
  • Teeth grinding
  • Self Esteem and Confidence
  • Aggression
  • Depression
  • Drug Addiction
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • IBS
  • Pain Management

Although we may associate hypnotherapy with the treatment of mental health conditions only, it can also be used for physical conditions too.

Will my GP need to know I am having hypnotherapy?

Your hypnotherapist may request your permission to let your doctor know that you are receiving hypnotherapy treatment. This will depend on the condition you are seeking treatment for.
