ADHD is Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and it affects the way that people behave. It is often picked up in children at a young age. Many cases are diagnosed between the ages of 6 – 12 years old.

Children are known to go through stages of being restless or appearing to be “somewhere else”. This does not always mean that they have ADHD and can just be part of growing up.

If you are an adult who believes they have ADHD but were not diagnosed when you were a child you can discuss this with your GP.

The cause of ADHD is unknown but there are things that can contribute such as:

  • being born prematurely (before the 37th week of pregnancy)
  • having a low birth weight
  • smoking or alcohol or drug abuse during pregnancy

Although Health insurance may not cover your family for the treatment of ADHD we still would like to share any relevant information with you.

It is a topic that many people need to know more about and sharing information can really help those suffering with ADHD along with their families.
