You may suffer with depression on a mild or more sever basis. Your recommended treatment will depend on the level of your depression but could include:

  • Waiting to see if you feel better without treatment (mild depression)
  • Exercise
  • Talking therapies
  • Counselling
  • Medication

For severe depression you may need to have more intense treatment and possibly an in-patient hospital stay to help with your recovery.

In sever cases you may need to have electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) or similar treatment.

Depression is not just simply that you feel a bit down or sad. Contrary to many opinions, if you suffer with depression you cannot simply snap out of it. It is a real medical condition and the effects to you and those around you can be long lasting and difficult to cope with.

If you have the right treatment and support in place, it is likely that you will be able to make a full recovery.

There are many symptoms associated and if you think you are suffering with Depression you should speak to a medical professional such as your GP. You may also find that you have symptoms of anxiety too.

The sooner you seek help from your GP the quicker you can begin your journey to recovery.
