Aviva health insurance gets a make-over

Aviva Health Insurance for business is called Solutions. This is a multi-award winning policy that businesses all across the UK have access to. In fact, whether you are looking for a policy on a personal basis or for your business, Aviva can provide a flexible solution. Since March 2021, there have been a number of changes. It is great to see a well-loved household brand reviewing their cover and making improvements for their members.

The Expert Select addition to the Aviva Health Insurance Hospital list options

Aviva Health Insurance already offers you a number of hospital choices. The addition of the Expert Select option expands the options further because Aviva wants to make things even simpler for you.

Expert Select is a simple guided approach to your Health Insurance. Not only does it mean you do not have to research your own treatment provider, it also saves you money. To make a claim you will need an open referral from your GP. Aviva will do the rest. You will be given a choice of 3 to 4 different facilities and Aviva will prioritise facilities that are rated good or outstanding with the Care Quality Commission.

When you choose the Expert Select hospital option from Aviva you should never experience any shortfalls in payment for medical treatment.

The Aviva Health Insurance Mental Health Pathway

The Mental Health pathway has been added to the Solutions policy. This is to ensure you and your staff have quick and easy access to mental health support. In turn, this should help you to reduce periods of absenteeism through mental health issues. Rapid access to medical help can ensure your staff get the support they need, fast. The new Mental Health pathway is included as standard in the Aviva Solutions company policy. Furthermore, you have the option of 28 or 45 days cover.

Key elements of the Aviva Health Insurance Mental Health Pathway include:

  • Self-referral for mental health issues
  • Cover is based on the clinical need of the member
  • A simple claims process offering a range of treatment options
  • Access to a wide range of practitioners including counsellors, CBT Therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists and talking therapy consultants

Mental Health issues are becoming more common in our everyday lives. Giving your employees easy access to mental health support is a fantastic way to help them when they need it most. Considering the reported effects of the coronavirus pandemic, mental health treatment is a key element for many company health insurance policies.

The Aviva Wellbeing Desktop and Mobile App

Aviva Wellbeing is an app designed to help employees and their insured adult dependents to live their best life. Importantly, it provides access to challenges for every level of fitness and to encourage the building of team spirit.

Access to Aviva Solutions for sole-traders

As a result of the Aviva review, the Aviva Solutions policy will now be available to sole traders. Previously, you had to have a minimum of 2 employees to be eligible for cover. This opens the door for many independent businesses who previously would have only had access to personal or consumer cover. In summary, this move will provide more choice for small business owners when it comes to health insurance.

Other changes to the Aviva Solutions Health Insurance policy

In addition to the above, there are other positive changes that have been implemented such as:

  • Out-patient surgery no longer affects your out-patient limit
  • The excess you choose no longer affects your out-patient limit
  • If you have the optional dental and optical benefit, the compulsory excess no longer impacts your benefit limit

These changes may be small but without a doubt will be of benefit to Aviva members.

Removal of the Overseas Emergency benefit from the Aviva Solutions policy

The Aviva Solutions policy used to include an Overseas Emergency benefit. This is no longer included as part of your cover. As it was a benefit that was rarely used and as the focus for the Solutions policy is for UK cover, Aviva no longer offers this category of cover. Emergency Overseas cover was not the same as travel insurance and only offered cover for emergency in-patient and day-patient treatment. If you or your employees travel abroad for work and want to have medical cover in place, a separate group travel insurance policy should be implemented. Group travel insurance is a cost effective way to cover your employees whilst working abroad on a short term basis.
