Health Assessments and Screening

One of the most valued things in life is good health. This is one good reason it is important to take positive steps to stay as healthy as you can.  It doesn’t matter whether it is by regular physical activity, eating a healthy diet, reducing alcohol consumption or quitting smoking. All of them will help you to improve and maintain your quality of life. By having a Health Assessment this can point you in the right direction for your future.

Positive lifestyle choices can improve your chances of avoiding some serious medical conditions including heart disease, stroke, diabetes, liver problems, lung problems and certain cancers.

You can also have a health assessment or screening.  These can help detect warning signs of more serious conditions before symptoms even develop. Another benefit of health assessments is that they can also provide you with guidance as to how you can improve your general health and well-being. Importantly helping to ensure your body functions smoothly both now and in the future.

There are a wide range of  private health assessments available. They provide you with a whole variety of comprehensive tests including blood tests, cholesterol, diabetes, cardiovascular, urine analysis etc. The higher the cost of the health assessment the more comprehensive test will be. There will also be specific tests depending on your gender.

Where can I get a Health Assessment?

Health assessments are available at certain hospital networks including BMI Healthcare and Nuffield Health. Bupa, one of the largest providers of private medical insurance also offer their own range of health assessments. Wherever you live in the country, you should have no problem finding a local health screening provider.

Before the in-depth tests commence, you will be asked to complete a health questionnaire . The questionnaire will ask for information about your lifestyle and diet. It is common to take note of your height and weight in order to get your BMI reading. This will give them a clearer understanding of your current state of health and whether or not certain test may not be appropriate for you.

What Happens when the results of my Health Assessment are ready?

Following your health screen you will receive a comprehensive medical report on all of the investigations undertaken. You will be offered the opportunity to discuss the results with a health professional. Discussing the results is an important element of the process because you need to know what if any implications have been found.

In some cases abnormalities may show, but you will receive advice on how these can be treated. If you have private medical insurance in place you can see whether cover is available on your policy. If it is you can then be treated quickly with easy access to required diagnostic testing. For those who do not have Health Insurance you can either self-fund or have the treatment on the NHS.

Vitality Health  offer discounts of up to 50% for private health assessments for their members. As the cost of these can range from, £100 to £750, this is a real benefit to many.
